Hello, I'm New to This Board

Hello:

I've been an active participate on the Al-Anon board for a while.  I hopped over here to check this board out.  I've been reading many of the posts/replies.  A lot of what I read resonates with me.

What brought me to the Al-Anon board was my marriage to a great guy with an "allergy" to alcohol, but continues to believe he can control it, despite 2 DUIs and 2 rehab stays, including having to go to detox before entering his first rehab.

I've begun to attend meetings recently.  I spent 3 years contemplating doing so; We recently divorced in June 2010.  I now realize that the divorce was my attempt to control him - let him know that I really meant it. LOL  I did not want the divorce.  But the craziness, which we both are responsible for generating out of ignorance, got to me. I know meetings will help me see through my insanity.

I appreciate the exchange of experiences, insights, and the humor I have found here.

Welcome Gail, We are all new here, this is a new board, happy to see you here

I like it here, and am looking forward to it as it seems to be heading in the direction of focusing on ourselves rather then those in our lives we -thought- were the problem, I look at this as a journey to make -myself- healthier, to look at my choices with a fresh perspective, and to let go of behavior modification techniques such as breaking up and setting boundaries in other peoples yard that don't seem to work anyway, I have come to believe that I learned tools that I needed in childhood or late teens/early 20's in order to survive that have come to be harmful ultimately to me, so, for me that lets go of the shame based way of looking at these things I had in the past, rather then, "I did this wrong", "I am wrong and bad", or even "I am sick or flawed" or focusing on the other person, to "I am going to do this differently", I have found a great deal of self empowerment here

Please feel free to join our step study or book study, we just started them both

Thanks for the welcome.  I agree to all you have written.  Finding this board feels like I've found a group of people whose path is similar to my chose path.  Thanks again, Gail
