Gratitude and acceptance are two magic tricks available to us in recovery. No matter who we are, where we are, or what we have, gratitude and acceptance work.
We may eventually become so happy that we realize our present circumstances are good. Or we master our present circumstances and then move forward into the next set of circumstances.
If we become stuck, miserable, feeling trapped and hopeless, try gratitude and acceptance. If we have tried unsuccessfully to alter our present circumstances and have begun to feel like we're beating our head against a brick wall, try gratitude and acceptance.
If we feel like all is dark and the night will never end, try gratitude and acceptance.
If we feel scared and uncertain, try gratitude and acceptance.
If we've tried everything else and nothing seems to work, try gratitude and acceptance.
If we've been fighting something, try gratitude and acceptance.
When all else fails, go back to the basics.
Gratitude and acceptance work.
Today, God, help me let go of my resistance. Help me know the pain of a circumstance will stop hurting so much if I accept it. I will practice the basics of gratitude and acceptance in my life, and for all my present circumstances.
I have lots to be grateful for...it's the acceptance part that is getting to me. This is very good and I think I'll write down and post it all over my house. Thanks for sharing it. I had her book years and years ago but it just wasn't the right time for me to use it, I guess. Maybe, I'll buy it again.

Gratitude helps me when I've been fighting. It helps to diffuse the anger of the moment. It helps me remember why I choose to stay in a place or with a person. I'm not sure about acceptance. I think I am avoiding acceptance. for the most part, I remain in denial. I don't want to deal straight on with a lot of issues that need dealing with. I ignore them and pretend they don't exist. But I cloak it all in an air of blissful gratitude.
I don't think my approach is as good as it could be, but it's a step closer to the ideal. My goals are always moving ahead of me.
Well, as I keep reading on here...baby steps are how we go and sometimes our baby steps are really small and we stumble but we get up and keep going. As long as we keep moving foreward we keep growing.
